The purpose of this show is to provide an entertaining show for the general public. The show is made to give people an outlook on crime that, while being very serious, is also slightly funny. It is also supposed to give the audience a view into a police station. While being very silly inside of the police station, they do have some truth in the fact that there will be many different types of characters in a police station, all equipped with their own set of problems. It also shows the office romance that can become true for some people, and the heartbreak that is true for others. The audience is mainly pointed towards people in their teens, and/or young adults. For parents wondering about this show for their younger children, it is strongly recommended that you watch it first because their is death and murder, villains and heroes, and also much mention of dating and flirting. Some of this may not seem too serious, but the reaction to it can be very different for every child.
Common Sense Media is a leading resource for parents everywhere who need to know the rating for a T.V. show, or if they should even show it to their kids. It states "Parents need to know that this detective comedy/drama, while funny and lighthearted, depicts dead bodies and some violent action. The main character (who has a tendency to act impulsively and selfishly, though he usually has a good ulterior motive) also pursues women eagerly, but it usually takes the form of flirting and verbal come-ons vs. groping sessions (though there is some making out occasionally). Overall, teens will probably find the main character and the show compelling and amusing. "
JohnThemon, a user of Common Sense Media, also recommends it! John says "A really funny show! Mostly good for kids 8+. There's some mild sexual stuff, but never explicit, so age appropriate. Violence is the main concern, sometimes the murders can be fairly graphic, but it's always appropriate for 10+. If your kids are particularly sensitive to violence, they'll be too distracted to see the comedy, so make sure they know it's all 'not real'."
